New Year! Snow Wedding! & I Blogggged it.

↓

I photographed a wedding at Juliette Chapel in Dahlonega, Ga - but it was last Friday and last Friday was SNOW in Atlanta - well - really all of North Georgia - but definitely Atlanta. And when it snows in Atlanta - Atlanta SHUTS DOWN.

While at first I didn’t believe the snow reports - after seeing ice ALREADY in the parking lot of the Kombvcha kitchen - and the nudging from Leah - AND the option to stay up in Dahlonega the night before the wedding at a hotel next door to the venue (instead of driving up the day of) - ALL THESE THINGS FELL INTO PLACE and I decided to drive up Thursday night instead of Friday Day of Wedding.

Whew. Good thing too.

Woke up that morning at The Limelight Inn - there was NO SNOW. But an hour later at 7:30am it started coming down and it didn’t stop for most of the day. And then it turned into ice. So yeah. Good thing I drove up the night before.

Juliette Chapel is about 150 yards from the Limelight Inn so everything was SUPER EASY. And beautiful. BEAUTIFUL.

And really - everything just kind of fell into place for the things to happen for Kate & Josh. Not everyone could make it to the wedding because of the weather - some people even arrived into town but because of the smaller roadways and hills around their Airbnb or hotel - they couldn’t make it to the venue.

So we were very fortunate that the Limelight Inn had rooms available AND that they were soooooo super accommodating. In fact - by the day of the wedding - everyone attending had booked alllll the rooms at the inn. So that was pretty awesome and magical logistically. We all partied freely not worrying that anyone was going to be driving away on the icy roads.

By Saturday morning all the main roads were plowed and cleared and everything was melting nicely. The drive back to Atlanta was beautiful and peaceful since most people still weren’t driving around.

Yeah, that was a fun wedding.

Photographer nerd alert - I used two off camera flashes - one to light the trees, and then one to light them. The light on the trees is a bare speedlight with no modifier coming from the left, and the light on them is a speedlight + softbox coming from the above right.

And I had the tallest grooms person holding the light stand as high as he could.

If you need people photography of any kind (except um, babies, no babies!) - let's talk!

And hey, thank you.

Sincerely,

Mark Tioxon

a fun family portrait

Hi Reader, For the past 4 years, I've offered 15-minute portrait sessions as a fundraiser for Rise City Dance — (my son's dance studio) and now it's back! Here's how it works: you (and your family and/or pets) show up, I photograph everyone in a bunch of combinations and poses, and 15 minutes later you walk away with brilliant portraits — family photos, headshots, whatever you need. 20-40 finished and edited photos delivered 1 week later through an online gallery. Quick, Easy, and FUN...

Last week I emailed everyone the recipe for our best selling kombvcha* (Witchy Kombvchy) - I hope you've enjoyed making making the best kombvcha you've ever tasted (some of you have even shared with me!) If you missed that email - just let me know and I'll tell you how to make it. Last week I also replaced an alternator and vtec solenoid gasket in a 2015 Honda Odyssey Van (and spliced a new cable lug). That's a simple job - basically unbolting or unscrewing things and then putting them back....

Hi it's me, Mark Tioxon - you know - all those things listed above in the title image. OKay I have three (3) quick things for you in this email. Well, quick messages not really things. Items? 3 quick items! 15 Minute Portraits are back! In case you don't know - I offer these 15 minute portrait sessions twice a year. It's a fundraiser for my son's dance company - Rise City Dance. Basically - You show up with your people, I run you through a series of LOTS OF poses and combinations - and you...
